Selkie Necklace - ‘Maighdeann Mhara‘
Occasionally my artwork collides with our silversmithing and a silver ‘art baby’ is born..
Maighdeann Mhara is one of these magical moments and we are so pleased she’s joined us!
Inspired by the Selkie legends from the Northern Scottish Islands, it is said that selkies are shapeshifters, seals in the water but on land they shed their seal skin and take the form of a woman.
Many stories tell of Selkies entrapped by men ok land who steal their skins, making them unable to return to the sea in order to keep them in captivity as their wives.
The story varies with each telling but for me, the Selkie is a powerful symbol of the wild woman we all hold inside.
Goddesses, free as the wind and wild as the ocean.
Wear her and hear your inner wild heart.
Maighdeann Mhara Is approx 30mm wide and 25 ‘long’.
She is set into a 17” chain with a little feather and a star. (Please let us know in the handy box at checkout if you’d like a different length )
She is solid sterling silver stamped with the A Wolf and I mark.
